Back to School, Back to School…

“Back to school. Back to school, to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool. I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight. Ohhhh, back to school. Back to school. Back to school. Well, here goes nothing. “ ~Billy Madison

Today I go back to school for the first time in four years.  I wish I could say it was to get my MBA or Law Degree or something prestigious like that, but it’s to get a certificate in interior design.  It may not be as prestigious as grad school but it should be a lot more fun (at least for me).

I’m only taking two classes this semester and happily they’re both on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so it should be fairly stress free.  I feel kind of old to be going back to school but I’m excited to start my path towards becoming an interior designer.  And I’m kind of secretly hoping it will be just like Community.

  1. I don't know why you feel that a degree in Interior Design isn't prestigious . It's a professional degree which requires a lot more physical work than an MBA and you have to take 3 exams to get licensed which is super difficult too [and expensive!]. Speaking as someone who's gone through all of this already, you should be proud! But be warned.. I went into it thinking it was a lot of decorating and fluff (like you see on TV or blogs) when really it's a whole lot of codes, ADA, structural equations, architecture, space planing, and fire safety. BUT! It's totally rewarding and I know you will enjoy it :) It's hard work but it definitely pays off to do something you love for a living!

    1. Thank you Catherine! That is very encouraging. I'm not sure if I'm going to do a whole degree ( I already have a bachelors degree in something else) but I'm definitely going to at least get a certificate. So I may not be able to get the certifications, but even after one week I can tell it is going to be more technical than I thought!
