I’m a Real Bed!

When I last showed you guys picture of my bedroom it was looking great but a bit incomplete.  Specifically, the bed was lacking a headboard.  But I finally fixed that! 

I found a great upholstered headboard on Joss & Main during their Cyber Monday sale.  The headboard from Skyline was already a good price, but on Cyber Monday they offered an additional 30% off everything.  So that made this king sized headboard only $225 plus $9.95 shipping.  I had been looking online for awhile but this was by far the best price I had seen. 

Now I know I probably could have made my own upholstered headboard for a little less money, but I’m pretty sure it would have came out looking like a DIY project.  This professionally made headboard didn’t cost substantially more than all the supplies for a DIY headboard would have, and it was a whole heck of a lot easier  

I love the texture of the fabric and I really love the brass nailhead trim.  It’s so pretty!  And now it’s really comfy to sit in bed and read.  Good thing my wonderful hubby got me some great books for Christmas!

Today I’m going to get some last minute Christmas things done so that we can hit the road tomorrow!  We’re driving back to Illinois and staying until the day after Christmas.  I can’t wait! 

Moroccan Tablescape

I officially started my internship last night.  I really love the designer I'm working with and I know I'm going to learn a lot from her.  My first "assignment" was to come up with some ideas for a Moroccan themed event tablescape.  This board has some of my favorite pieces, but you can also see more on my Pinterest Board.

Christmas Mantle Craft

Today I decided my fireplace needed to get a little more Christmas-fied.  When you last saw it I had a good start with the reindeer and the stockings.  Over the last couple weeks I added the garland and the new vase from Target with some red berry branches in it.  I still needed a Christmas centerpiece for it though. 

So today I decided to get crafty and creative.  I didn’t want to spend any money, spend a lot of time on the project, or make a big mess.  I was loosely inspired by the mantle I shared with you last week. Here’s the finished project. (P.S. sorry for the not great pictures, my camera died over the weekend and I forgot to charge it so I had to rely on the iphone.)

And here’s how I got there.  This was one of those projects that I just made up as I went.  I started with an old poster frame that was hanging out in the basement.  I wrapped the front of it with wrapping paper. 

Then I added a tree form to the center of it.  I didn’t have any paper big enough so I used one side of a shopping bag from Anthropologie (like I told you, I made this up as I went along).  I attached it to the wrapping papers using glue dots on the three corners.  Then I spelled out “Merry Christmas” underneath it with the same stickers I used on my makeup box. 

The next step was to cut out a ton of little stars out of scrapbook paper using this paper punch. 

The final step was to glue all the stars onto the tree.  I just used a glue stick on the back of each of the stars and then stuck them randomly on the paper.  This was the most time consuming part of the project but it was so easy that I didn’t mind.  Plus I had my favorite movie, The Princess Bride, on in the background. 

Once I was happy with the amount of star coverage I was done! 

I took down my Paris map print and put this in its place.

Looks pretty good, doesn’t it?!  Especially for a project that was free and really easy! 

Blog Lovin’

I don’t have much time for a blog post today but I did want to share a couple things.  First up, this adorable mantle from The Sweet Survival.  I especially love the ornament tree wall hanging, which you can read more about here

Next, this tablescape done by Jenny at Little Green Notebook.  To highlight the unique shape of her table she created her own placemats/runner out of black posterboard and pink washi table.  So clever!

Lastly, this incredible photograph of the ceiling of the Palais Garnier in Paris, painted by Marc Chagall. I don’t know how I didn’t know about this before but it is gorgeous!  I wish I had seen it in person when I was in Paris this summer.  Photo via here

Mood Board Experiments

Today I'm sharing a mood board I created just for fun on Polyvore.  I had never really used Polyvore before but I'm so happy I finally decided to take the time to learn it.  Dana from House Tweaking created a hugely helpful tutorial series to show readers how she creates her mood boards.  This is much easier and better than Picasa, which is what I have been using!

Treat. Yo. Self.

This morning I had an interview and it went very well!  Starting this January I will be interning for an awesome local interior designer!  I don’t want to share very many details right now but I’m really excited for this opportunity to start working in my field and learn from a practicing designer. 

The interview took place at a coffee shop at the Plaza that happened to be right next to Anthropologie.  I popped in after we were done to take a look around.  I absolutely love Anthropologie, but it isn’t exactly cheap so the only things I’ve ever bought there were two latte bowls.  Since I had just gotten some great news I decided to treat my self and buy some pretty little things. 

Even though I was celebrating the good news I couldn’t spend too much; this is an unpaid internship after all.  So everything I picked up was from the sale section and I only spent a little over $40 for the whole lot. 

I think that little mug is my favorite; the stripes inside are so cute! 

By the way, in case you didn’t get the “treat. yo. self” reference, it’s from Parks and Rec.  I love this clip.  Donna and Tommy are fantastic.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!  I think I’m going to join my mother-in-law and sister-in-law at the mall for some holiday shopping tomorrow.  Wish me luck braving the crowds!
