Blush Living Room Designs

Yesterday I showed you some of my favorite blush home décor items, and today I’m showing you how to use them by featuring them in two different living room designs.

For the first one I used blush as an accent in the rug and the pillow and I kept the rest of the room pretty neutral.

Living Room with Blush Accents

For the second room I let the pink sofa be the star of the room with black and white and gold accents. It really pops against the striped rug, don’t you think?

To see all the items used in both rooms, you can click on each picture or click here to view the designs on Polyvore.

I’m curious, which room do you prefer? When I was designing them I thought I’d like the black and white rug/pink couch room better, but I think I like the gray couch/blush rug a little more!

Golden Globes Color Trend: Bold Red

Time for part three of my color trend series inspired by the lovely ladies on the Golden Globes red carpet. This time I’m celebrating the bold red dresses of Allison Williams, Taylor Schilling, and Lena Dunham. Such stunning dresses!

Like a red ballgown, a red room can be a tricky feat to pull off. It can read too aggressive and masculine or too dated, or it can conjure images of giant red, overstuffed leather sofas (eek!). But these rooms below use red perfectly.

So pretty, don’t you think? If you don’t want to go the way of red walls, a few pieces of red furniture or a couple red accessories can still add a great pop of color to a room.

Golden Globes Color Trend: Sparkling Silver

Time for part two of my color trend series inspired by Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet. Today I’m loving silver, just like the fabulous dresses seen below on Dakota Johnson, Reese Witherspoon, and Julianne Moore.

I’m so jealous of their pretty, sparkly dresses! They just look perfect for the awards show.

Sparkly silver can be harder to pull off in the home, but if done well it’s lovely. Use some metallic accents, like lamps or pendant lights, some silver wallpaper, or mirrored furniture to add a glamorous feel to your room.

Here are a few beautiful rooms that figured out how to pull off silver well.

And here are a few accents you can bring into your home. Try the silver curtains and the mirrored coffee table for a sophisticated living room, or the sequined lamp and beaded pillows for a fun teen girl’s room.

I’m dying over that Moroccan pouf, and I love the Target side table; I even used it in my friend’s apartment makeover. Do you have silver in your house?

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for my final post of my Golden Globes color trend series!

Golden Globes Color Trend: Canary Yellow

Hello lovelies, did everyone watch the Golden Globes Sunday night? I just love awards shows, especially the red carpet. I get such joy from seeing celebrities all dolled up in fabulous gowns, and I like to imagine what kind of couture dress I would wear if I were lucky enough to ever walk a red carpet myself (a girl can dream, right?).

There were some pretty obvious color trends this year at the Golden Globes red carpet, and they’ve inspired me to start 2015 with a week-long series inspired by these gorgeous dresses.

First up: canary yellow. It’s a hard color to pull off, but don’t Naomi Watts, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and Leslie Mann look stunning?

Yellow can also be a hard color to pull off in the home, but if done right it’s so lovely and refreshing.

Black and Yellow, I think I will do this in our laundry room. Why not make it a happy room.

It might be the dreary winter weather, but yellow is looking particularly alluring to me right now. It just adds so much brightness and energy to a room, don’t you think? You don’t have to do a full makeover to bring a little yellow into your home; a few accessories or one statement piece in a bright hue will do the trick. Here are a few of my favorites.

Do you have any yellow in your home, or are you thinking of adding any? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

Modern Black and White Room

Hello friends! I have another fun room design for you today! For this board I started with a fabulous accent chair: this sunny yellow Chinoiserie armchair from Chairish. There’s actually a pair of them, and I think they would look great flanking a lovely light gray sofa like this one designed by The Everygirl for Interior Define. I kept the rest of the room pretty neutral, adding a lovely Moroccan rug for texture, a sleek vintage black art deco lamp, some gorgeous black and white art from Minted, and more.

Once I started building this room I realized that it reminded me of Jenna Lyons’ iconic living room, isn’t it gorgeous!

What do you think of a neutral room with a single pop of color? It’s a little different than my usual style but I love it!

Modern Bathroom Designs

This post is sponsored by ModernBath.com. All opinions and thoughts expressed within are my own.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while you might be aware that my style is a little all over the place. I like to mix some traditional elements with more modern ones, maybe throw in a little bit of bohemian or Chinoiserie. In short, I guess the best way to describe my style is "eclectic.”

I’ve designed a lot of living room mood boards and a few bedroom and office boards, but I’ve never done a bathroom design. So when the people at ModernBath.com reached out to me about reviewing their site, I thought it would be a fun challenge. Instead of sticking with a certain style I combined several products I absolutely love. I guess you could call this room “feminine rustic glamor.”

For my dream bathroom I started with this Rustic Chic vanity from ModernBath.com. I paired it with one of my favorite wallpapers (which I’d balance by adding white beadboard on the bottom half of the wall), added a pretty bone herringbone mirror, a two-toned metal chandelier, the most amazing soaking tub, and a tribal stool that can be placed next to the tub for you to set your wine and book on. Now tell me that this doesn’t sound like the perfect bathroom.

Fairmont Designs Rustic Chic 48” Modern Bathroom Vanity, ModernBath.com, $1852 // Parsons Small Wall Mirror – Bone Inlay, West Elm, $299 // Currey & Company Fairchild Small Chandelier, Layla Grace, $1320 // Neptune Wish 01 Freestanding Oval Bathroom Tub, ModernBath.com, $4541 // Vanuatu Twilight Wallpaper, Anthropologie, $198 // Tribal Carved Wood Accent Table, World Market, $149

ModernBath.com has everything you’d need to design your dream bathroom: vanities, showers and tubs, lighting, etc. And they come in every style: modern, transitional, and traditional. I will say that the prices on their pieces are quite a bit higher than you’d pay at a big-box store like Lowe’s or Home Depot, but their options and quality contribute toward the higher prices. This vanity, for example, is made of solid wood and features dovetail drawers, a feature I doubt you’d find in a much cheaper option.

What features would you choose for your dream bathroom? Would you have a whirlpool tub or a clawfoot bath? A killer chandelier or marble tile? Leave a note in the comments!

TV Favorite: Regina’s Office from Once Upon a Time

You guys, do you know what tonight is? The season premier of Once Upon a Time! I really enjoy this show and their modern take on classic fairy tales.

I recently re-watched season 1, which is the best season in my opinion, and I was struck at how lovely the sets are. I really like Mary Margaret’s shabby chic apartment and Granny’s diner, but I especially adore Regina’s glamorous black and white office. (P.S. I’m pretty sure no mayor, except maybe the mayor of a huge city like New York, has an office this nice.)

Isn’t it gorgeous?! Now, all the black and white might be slightly over the top for a real-life room, but I think it is absolutely perfect for the show. And how amazing is that tree wallpaper?!

I love this room so much that I decided to recreate it for you. I’m pretty sure the wallpaper, table lamps, and dining chairs are exact matches, and the rest of my picks are as close as I could find.

Friday Favorites 9.26.14

Happy Friday, loves! Here are a few of my favorite links from the week.

This House Tour

Lauren Conrad - The Fireplace

Lauren Conrad’s house tour in In Style is to die for. Somehow she transformed herself from reality TV star to my generation’s lifestyle icon, and I’m so jealous of her style, both in clothing and in her gorgeous L.A. home. It’s the perfect blend of California and Parisian style, casual but sophisticated. See more photos here.

This Sofa

sofa

I popped into Anthropologie last weekend to take a break from the Plaza Art Fair crowds (so much fun, but so many people!), and this navy velvet chesterfield sofa literally stopped me in my tracks when I saw it. It’s that gorgeous in person. It’s not exactly cheap ($2498), but it is stunning. It also comes in a ton of other pretty colors, including teal, yellow, and rose. Check it out here.

This Kitchen

White Kitchen with Gold Hardware

I love a bright, white kitchen, so it’s no surprise that I love this kitchen remodel by designers Owens + Davis. What is surprising though is that according to their instagram page, this is an Ikea kitchen! And obviously I also love the colorful kilim rug by Amber Interiors, it goes so well with the white cabinets and counters. Owens + Davis are seriously talented, see more of their gorgeous rooms here.

This DIY Project

copper glass lantern centerpiece

The lovely Erin from House of Earnest (who I had the pleasure of meeting at this year’s Go Blog Social conference) comes up with the prettiest, expensive-looking DIY projects, like this copper rimmed glass candleholder. It looks seriously sophisticated and high-end, don’t you think? I think it’d be perfect for a modern fall centerpiece. For more photos and instructions click here.

That’s all for today friends. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Client Living Room Inspiration

I mentioned yesterday that I’m working with a friend on redecorating her house, and I am so excited for this project! I went over last week and we worked on picking out paint colors for the downstairs rooms. She loves cool colors, like blue and gray, but she also isn’t afraid to have some fun and go bold. After talking things through, here’s what we came up with for her living room:

Living room colors

A medium gray (sea haze) for the living room walls, a bright blue (electric blue) for the accent wall around the fireplace, and a coral (summer sun pink) for decorative accents (all paint colors are Benjamin Moore).

My friend and her husband already bought a charcoal gray couch and loveseat and they’d like a black leather ottoman for the coffee table (something soft that their little girls won’t hurt themselves on), so I used those in my room design. I added a gray and white rug, some fun throw pillows, curtains, and some patterned stools for extra seating that won’t block the fireplace.

Gray, coral, and blue living room

Verano Sofa, Crate & Barrel, $1799 // Safavieh Large Square Ottoman, Target, $262 // Oversized Chevron Pillows, Target, $22 each // Geo Floral Pillow, Target, $15 // Ranarp Floor Lamp, Ikea, $60 // Nate Berkus Area Rug, Target, $110 // Agate Serving Tray, Target, $20 // Ombre Window Panels, Target, $25 each // Threshold X-Stools, Target, $48 each

*prices current as of 9/23/14*

My friend doesn’t have a large decorating budget so we’re shopping at inexpensive stores like Target and Ikea for most of the items. By the way, Target is having a fantastic sale on a lot of their furniture and home décor right now, if you’re in need of any new items for your home you should check it out!

Friday Favorites 8.29.14

Happy Friday, my friends! Thank you to everyone who entered my giveaway for the West Elm gift card! The winner was chosen and notified.

Now it’s time for my Friday favorites, where I share a few things I’m loving that may or may not be on your radar. First up:

These Rooms

My first favorite of the week comes to you courtesy of Instagram. I follow Lindsey from The White Buffalo Styling Company on Instagram, and this week she headed up a group of bloggers that shared their favorite rooms this week in the Blogger Stylin Home Tours roundup. I followed along on Instagram with #bloggerstylinhometours, and wow, were there some gorgeous rooms! These are a few of my favorites.

These Books

book collage

I love reading, but I go through phases where I read, like, 5 book in a month and then I don’t read anything again for another 3 or 4 months. Is anyone else like that? Well now I’m back in one of my reading binges and I’m loving it. I’m reading This is Where I Leave You for Sarah’s bookclub, I’m listening to Where’d You Go Bernadette in the car (for free courtesy of my local library and Overdrive), and I just received A Beautiful Mess’ new book, Happy Handmade Home on Tuesday. I’ve only had a chance to flip through it a little bit but it looks fantastic! You may have seen my Instagram pic of the book; I was so thrilled when Emma Chapman (one of the authors) commented on it! How sweet is that!

This Drink

watermelon ginger sparklers I howsweeteats.com

I’ve been dreaming about these Watermelon Ginger Sparklers Jessica shared on How Sweet Eats. I haven’t made them yet, but they sound like the perfect summer cocktail. I’m loving all things ginger right now, so this is right up my alley. Oh, except Jessica is pregnant so she made this drink a mocktail; I would definitely be adding some vodka to my drink!

And on that note, cheers to the long weekend! I hope you all have a spectacular Labor Day!

Trending: Black and White Stripes

Last month I mentioned that I love browsing through my Pinterest boards to see what trends are sticking out. In addition to colorful kilim rugs, another trend I’m seeing on my board is black and white stripes, especially on upholstery.

I love the graphic look a black and white striped piece adds to a room, especially combined with a bit of color. My black and white chevron rugs in my entryway are some of my favorite things in my house because they add such great pattern and style to the space.

If you want to bring the look into your home here are a few pieces that’ll do the trick. If you’re just dipping your toe into the trend, try the Target basket or the Ikea pillow, or if you’re ready to dive in buy a bigger piece like the chair or the headboard. Just don’t add more than a couple of these items to one room or people will start calling you Beetlejuice!

Thrifty Find: Faux Bamboo Chairs

Over the past several years that I’ve been reading design blogs I’ve noticed that faux bamboo furniture has been popping up all over the place. I don’t really know where this trend began but I love it! I especially love a good faux bamboo chair at a desk or dining table.

A vibrant green desk adds a pop of color to this office. Tour the rest of this home: www.bhg.com/decorating/makeovers/before-and-after/a-neutral-decorating-makeover/?socsrc=bhgpin071912greendesk

I’ve been hunting for inexpensive bamboo pieces for a long time, and with a few exceptions (like my awesome mirror), I haven’t had a lot of luck. Turns out that the Midwest isn’t the hotspot of Chinoiserie furniture, who knew?

But I finally had a spot of luck the other day when I came across a set of four faux bamboo Thomasville chairs on Craigslist for $300. I really only needed one chair, but the seller had another buyer interested in two chairs and would only sell me the other two. I didn’t want to lose this purchase so I went ahead and bought two of them, but I did negotiate the price down from $150 to $115 for two armless chairs. It may not be thrift store prices but I think they’re well worth it, especially because they’re in perfect condition. The previous owner had used a sprayer to repaint them and she recovered the seats in a durable black faux-leather vinyl. Plus it’s much less than you would pay for two new chairs, especially ones this stylish.

I’m using one as my desk chair and the other is hanging out next to the fireplace in the living room, although I may end up moving it someplace else. I tried it in the entryway but I missed the color of the dining chair that’s there now.

What do you think? Have you jumped on the faux bamboo bandwagon yet? Or have you found any other treasures on Craigslist lately?
