Kate Spade Saturday at West Elm

Happy Monday, friends! Sorry for the lack of posts last week; unexpected events took me away from blogging. But I’m back now, and hopefully I’ll be able to continue to post all week.

The other day I was browsing through West Elm’s website and discovered something amazing: a product line in collaboration with Kate Spade Saturday! How did I not know about this sooner?! It’s well documented that I love both Kate Spade and West Elm, so I was thrilled to see the two come together. The Saturday line has the spirit and color of the regular Kate Spade collection, just a little more relaxed (hence the Saturday name) and a little more affordable than the parent line. And I’m happy to report that the West Elm/Saturday products are just as great as I would hope. They have it all: bedding, rugs, pillows, lighting, art, and furniture. It’s all great, but below are a few of the items I’m particularly in love with.

"Kate Spade Saturday @ West Elm" by blue11interiors on Polyvore

Zigzag Pillow Cover, $39 // Chambray Diagonal Duvet Cover, $79 for a Queen // Globe Floor Lamp, $349 // Shifting Shapes Pillow Cover, $34 // Good Vibes Wall Art, $159 // Small Scale Maze Dhurrie Rug, $239 for 5’x8’ // Floral Print Anders Chair, $599

What do you think? Would you buy any of these for your home?

Be sure to come back later this week for a sweet Valentine’s Day DIY project!

Go Blog Social Meetup at Kate Spade

kate spade storefront

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a fun blogger meetup at the Kate Spade store at the Country Club Plaza. If you surveyed women in their 20’s and 30’s, especially creative and/or fashionable women, I bet 95% of them would say they love Kate Spade, so it was only natural that Go Blog Social would team up with them to host an event for bloggers and other small business owners.

I’m with the 95% that loves Kate Spade, and even though a lot of their items are out of my price range right now I love visiting their stores. They do such an amazing job decorating and styling!

They had cute drinks and snacks, a couple giveaways, and a 20% shopping discount for the night. I think everyone’s favorite part was just getting to catch up with blogger friends and meeting new ones!

I borrowed the above photo from Kari from This, Too. Pictured from left to right are Alexandra Sprerrazza, Kari, Meg from Life of Meg, and me! It was so great to visit with these ladies!

I was on a budget but I couldn’t leave the store empty-handed, so I bought this darling pencil pouch that I plan to use as a clutch. It was $30 but with the Go Blog Social discount I only paid $24.

I mentioned earlier that they did a couple giveaways and guess what? I was one of the winners! I won a ticket to the Go Blog Social pop-up in Chicago! I had such a wonderful time at GBS in KC this April so I am thrilled to learn more and meet more awesome people in Chicago. Are any of my fellow blogger readers planning to go?

Birthday Wishlist 2014

My birthday will be here in less than two weeks (May 20!) which means it’s time for my annual birthday wishlist post. Here are a few things I’m loving right now in case you’re looking for something to buy me Smile

  • Threshold Urchin Shelf Sculpture, because I always need more gold/brass accessories around the house. (Target, $13)
  • I’d love a new jewelry box, and this one from Z Gallerie is the right size, style, and price (which has been surprisingly hard to find). (Largo Jewelry Box, $40)
  • Have you heard of these Charlie Hustle t-shirts? They’re getting really popular, especially in Kansas City which is where they’re made. I love this light blue KC one. (KC Heart, $32).
  • I always need more cute summer outfits right? I’m obsessed with this bright tribal print skirt from Target, and I think it would look really cute with a white tank and this lightweight knit vest. (Merona skirt and Mossimo vest, $23 each)
  • The nautical theme is really big right now, and this rattan tray would be an easy way to incorporate the trend and bring a little bit of summer into my living room. (Target, $20)
  • Who doesn’t want a pretty new pair of earrings for their birthday? I think this pair from Stella & Dot is beautiful and they would look great with almost any outfit. (Fiona Earrings, $39)
  • I’ve loved Anthropologie’s latte bowls for a long time. I have two dark blue ones and they are so versatile, but one of them got chipped recently. I think that’s a perfect excuse to add this colorful set to my kitchen! (Assorted Latte Bowls, $20)
  • No wishlist is complete without something Kate Spade! This great little tote from Strand Books is perfect for a day of shopping, and at only $15, it’s the cheapest Kate Spade bag out there! (Strand Books, $15)

kate spade Inspired Lampshade

Do you remember the lampshades I “made-over” a couple weeks ago? The ones I decorated with the gold sharpie? IMG_2332
It was an ok start but it wasn’t where I wanted it to be. The sharpie was gold but on the fabric shades it just looked brown. So today I broke out some gold metallic paint, some ribbon, and a glue gun, and…ta da!

IMG_2385
I used Martha Stewart metallic craft paint in yellow gold (the same stuff I used on my chevron table and my gold embellished frames) and a small paint brush to paint over the existing sharpie polka dots.

Notice how much better the color looks (the sharpie dots are on the left, the gold painted ones are on the right.)

I picked up two rolls of ribbon in the fabric section at Hobby Lobby for about $3 each. I used my handy dandy glue gun to attach the trim to the top and bottom of the shades.

Easy peasy! The only tricky part of the project was getting the ribbon to lay flat against the curved surface of the shade. I used my finger to smooth out the ribbon as I applied it, which helped the wrinkles and gapping. It also helped to even out the glue so you I didn’t have a thick line through the middle of the ribbon.

While I was sprucing things up I also decided to swap out the boring nickel knobs on the nightstands to pretty new glass ones.

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the new knobs are clear glass with lots of little bubbles, they are much prettier than the boring nickel knobs!
And there you have it! All it took was a little paint and a little ribbon to makeover a boring white lampshade into a white, gold, and black kate spade inspired piece!
