Summer Fabric Wreath

I have a new DIY project to share with you that’s perfect for summer. I made a super cute new wreath for my front door for just a few bucks!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own fabric wreath:
  • Foam wreath. I got mine at Walmart for $3.88
  • Fabric. This is a great project to use up fabric scraps left over from another project, or you can pick up a yard of fabric at a craft store (you’ll have plenty of fabric leftover to use on something else)
  • Double-stick tape
  • Scissors
Summer Wreath Materials
Start by cutting strips of fabric about 1”-1.5” wide. Don’t worry about making them perfectly straight. A lot of mine were pretty wonky (see below) and the wreath turned out fine.

wreath strip
Put a piece of double-stick tape to one end of your fabric strip. Make sure to put your tape on the wrong side of the fabric if yours isn’t double-sided.

wreath tape
Attach the end of your fabric strip to the wreath and start wrapping.

When you get to the end of your fabric strip put another piece of tape on the end and tape it to the wreath. Then grab another strip, tape it onto the wreath so that you overlap the last piece of fabric, and keep wrapping until it’s all covered. Here’s what mine looked like at that point:

Then I went back and trimmed off some of the longer threads from my fabric.

And the basic part of your wreath is finished! I wanted to add some embellishment so I made a few fabric rosettes out of some pink and white gingham fabric.

I didn’t take any pictures of how I made these but I followed this tutorial from Life in Grace. All you need is fabric and fabric glue or hot glue. I word of warning if you use hot glue like I did: use teeny tiny drops of glue. This are little flowers and if you use anything more than a teeny tiny bit of hot glue you will burn the crap out of your fingers (I might have done this more than once…). Also, this was the most labor intensive part of the project. It probably took me 30-40 minutes to make these 3 little flowers. But the time was worth it, I love how they turned out!

The last step is to hot glue your rosettes onto the wreath.

That’s it! Your fabric wreath is finished!

To hang my wreath I tied a long piece of white ribbon around the center then hung the ribbon on an upside down 3M hook on the inside of the door.

What do you think? I love the bright summery colors against the gray door. It definitely helps brighten things up a bit, don’t you think? If you make a wreath of your own please feel free to share a picture of it in the comments!
