Pier 1 Dopplegangers

Pier 1 has some really great new pieces. My favorite? This chest:

Quenn Cabinet

Queen Cabinet, $399.95

It’s a pretty great knockoff of the Dorothy Draper Espana Chest, a true design classic. Of course, to get the real deal you are going to pay a lot more.

Dorothy Draper Espana Chest from 1st dibs, $2900

I would absolutely love to have a real Dorothy Draper chest, but it’ll be a long time before I can afford one, so for my money I’d be really happy with the Pier 1 doppleganger.

Another new addition to Pier 1’s inventory is this fabulous mirror:

Golden Medallions Mirror

Golden Medallions Mirror, $279

This is a great and affordable version of the popular “Peacock Mirror.” You can find this several places, including Restoration Hardware.

Peacock Mirrors

Peacock Mirror, $895

Lastly, we have this gorgeous gold faux bamboo console table:

Zhu Console Table

Zhu Console Table, $129.95

Although it’s a different shape it looks very similar to this Chinese Chippendale table from Charlotte & Ivy.

Gold and Glass Chinese Chippendale Table

Gold and Glass Chinese Chippendale Table, $299

So, would you go for the Pier 1 version of any of these? Have you found anything else great there recently?

Nine Desks Under $200

Now that I’m back in school I’m reminded of how much I want a new desk. The bad part of being back in school though is that I have very little money to spend on things like a new desk. Luckily there are some really great affordable options out there. These desks range from $36-$200. I’d love to hear your opinion on which ones you like best! Room of the Day

Today I’m sharing this beautiful, pattern filled bedroom by Taylor Borsari.

Taylor Borsari

Here’s the description from Décor Pad:

“Beautiful bedroom with Phillip Jeffries Moroccan Wallpaper in Black framing bone inlay table used as nightstands filled with mercury glass gourd lamps, Made Goods Fiona Mirror paired with carved wood chair over Madeline Weinrib Blue Mandala Rug.”

I love so much about this room, but I have to admit that there’s A LOT going on here. What do you think? Is it to much for one space, or does it work for you?

Back to School!

Hi friends. This is back to school week for me and I have a full course load: budgeting and estimating, drafting, lighting, and history of furniture and ornamentation. It should keep me pretty busy this semester! This week will probably be pretty light in terms of blog posts as I get used to my new schedule and new classes. Wish me luck!

DIY Word Cloud Art by Tagxedo

I’ve got a really fun DIY art project for you today! A while ago I repinned this post from From High in the Sky about creating your own word cloud art using the free web program Tagxedo. Today I finally got around to checking out Tagxedo and I had so much fun creating my own art!

You plug in any words you want…whether that’s song lyrics, a poem, a random collection of words, anything…and Tagxedo groups the prominent words into a fun shape of your choosing. It also lets you choose a font and a color theme for your DIY art piece.

I took three of my favorite songs and turned them into these prints.

God Only Knows Tagxedo

“God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys

Luckiest Tagxedo

“The Luckiest” by Ben Folds

Dog Days Tagxedo

“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence + the Machine

You can easily print your Tagxedo prints on your home printer, but you can also print them out onto items like t-shirts, coffee mugs, and tote bags in Tagxedo’s shop. That could be a really cute personalized gift idea, don’t you think?

Great Midwest Balloon Festival

Hello dear readers. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! My weekend was fantastic. Ben and I attended Kansas City’s Great Midwest Balloon Festival in Olathe. We didn’t really know what to expect but we ended up having a really great time!

Before the balloons were set up we enjoyed some food and beer from some of the food trucks. Then we grabbed our camping chairs and set up a spot to watch the hot air balloons inflate and fly off.

Then they set up more balloons, including the novelty shape balloons, which stayed on the ground.

Once all the balloons were set up they let the crowd go in the field and walk around and check out the balloons up close.

The best part of the night was when they did the balloon glow. On the count of 10 all the balloon pilots turned on their flames at the same time so all the balloons literally glowed. It was gorgeous.

This was the first time I attended the annual festival and I am sure it won’t be the last!

Have any of you ever attended a hot air balloon festival before?

Dream Kitchen by Genevieve

Yesterday I watched several episodes of “Dear Genevieve” on HGTV and I was reminded how much I love Genevieve’s work. This kitchen from the episode “Grand Kitchen” was especially gorgeous.

IMG_0032

Gorgeous, right? Let’s talk about it. In no particular order here are my 5 favorite things about this room.

1. The marble island. That chevron-y stripe on the side slab is amazing.

2. Three words: Brass. Globe. Pendants.

IMG_0036

3. The vintage (Persian?) rug runner. As Gen said, it’s nice to have something with soul and history in a room with so much new stuff.

IMG_0039

4. All the white. White kitchens are so beautiful and classic.

5. The vintage wood bar stools. Like the mix of the old school house feel with the elegant kitchen.

What do you think? Are you as in love with this kitchen as I am?

Etsy Explorer: Abstract Art

I’ve found that I’m really attracted to abstract art lately. I’ve never owned any abstract art; my favorite art in my house are my photography prints by Alicia Bock.  But I’m loving these colorful, free form paintings on Etsy.

Monday Blues

Happy Monday everyone! Now I know Mondays are usually the worst day of the week (except last Monday when I saw Macklemore!), so I have some pretty pictures to hopefully brighten your day.

As you probably have guessed by the name of my blog and my living room paint color, blue is my favorite color, yet for some reason, I’ve never really featured it in a post. So today I’m sharing some of my favorite rooms in all shades of blue: navy, robin’s egg, teal, and more. Enjoy!
