Incredibly Cool Canvas Furniture

I am utterly amazed by these images of hanging canvas furniture by YOY design studios. At first glance it looks just like a canvas art print of a chair, but it actually serves as a usable piece of furntiure. Would this be considered reverse trompe-l’oeil?

Amazing right? If you’re still curious how these work here’s the description from Design Boom

“presented at salone satellite during milan design week 2013, japanese design studio YOY have developed 'canvas', a series of two-dimensional hanging furniture pieces. constructed out of wood and and aluminum, the volume is covered by an elastic fabric - screen-printed with drawings of different types of furniture. the piece works when the frame is leaned against a wall, stretching when
weight is applied - accommodating the user within the newly formed void. available in three different sizes, the hanging seats come in stool, love seat and sofa variations.”

Obviously these canvas chairs aren’t exactly practical but they are so innovative and creative. What do you think?

Round Bookcase Round-Up

I grew up in a house filled with books. I think literally every room (with the exception of some of the bathrooms) in my parents’ house has at least one bookcase in it. I think books give a room so much warmth and interest, but the bookshelves they go in are not always so wonderful.

So it’s understandable that I fell in love with the idea of a round bookshelf. I’ve seen a custom round bookshelf installed in a nursery and it was so interesting and beautiful while still being very functional. I’ve rounded up several examples of both free-standing and wall-mounted units, some of which are for sale and some of which are inspiration photos.

Staycation Week Recap Part 2

Here’s the conclusion of our fantastic staycation week. Wednesday we started the day with lunch out, followed by a cupcake from Sugar Momma’s. They made our wedding cake and cupcakes for our wedding two years ago so an anniversary cupcake was a necessity. Then we did a tour and some beer tasting at the Boulevard Brewery. I love that place!

Thursday we had an epic (and exhausting!) day at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. We met up with Ben’s mom and little sister Brylee soon after the park opened to hang out with them, and then we split up and rode some rollercoasters and soaked up the sun at the waterpark.

The week ended with a few days at Ben’s dad’s house at Table Rock lake. It was kind of a long drive down there but I had this guy on my lap to entertain me Smile

And that, folks, is the end of my staycation week. I wish we had more time every week to take advantage of some of these wonderful places in and near Kansas City!

Staycation Week Recap Part 1

Our week of vacation is officially over and I am officially bummed. I really didn’t expect to have such a good time “staycationing” in Kansas City but we had a great time! I wish we could spend every week like this!

Monday we had a picnic (with pizza!) at Longview Lake, after which we took Finnley on a long walk in the park. That night we went to the Royals game with my SIL Beth.IMG_1227

As I mentioned earlier, last Tuesday was our two-year anniversary! We started the day with brunch as Succotash, followed by a visit to the Kemper Museum and then ice cream at Christopher Elbow’s Glace. If you’ve never been there before you are missing out: they have the most incredible ice cream!

Then we went home and got dressed up for our anniversary dinner at Avenues Bistro. It was our first time there and it was absolutely amazing! We started with their frites appetizer which was a lot bigger than we expected! I *almost* didn’t have room left for my imperial halibut and mashed potatoes.

I’ll be back tomorrow with pictures from the rest of the week!

Staycation Day 1

Good morning friends! Today is officially the second day of my Staycation week! My husband actually gets a whole week off from work, which is a rare occurrence for a resident. Since we did a big vacation last year we decided to save some money and spend our vacation in Kansas City. We have plans to go to a Royals game, take a tour of the Boulevard brewery, spend the day at Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun, and much more Smile

Yesterday we went to Lee’s Summit’s downtown days, which was basically a fair set up in the middle of downtown. If you ever wonder why Americans are fat, just order some Texas Twister Cheese fries (sorry, it was too messy to take a picture). I did manage to take a few other pictures though.

Then last night we went to the drive-in movie theater. I hadn’t been to a drive-in movie since I was about 9 years old and I wish I hadn’t waited so long to go back! I loved it! Lots of space, comfortable seats, BYOB snacks and drinks, no one yelling at you for checking your cell phone…it was wonderful. Plus it was only $10 to see 2 movies! We saw The Internship and the Hangover Part III. I really enjoyed both of them.

Now I’m off to get ready to take Finnley to the park for a nice walk. Do you guys have any other recommendations for our Staycation week?
